Quick answer
Request the stop before accepting the transfer. Give the exact accommodation, proposed shop, shopping duration, passengers and complete luggage load. Ask the provider to assess the route and confirm the total fare, waiting terms and delay plan in writing. Check shop hours separately and coordinate the later arrival with your host. A direct-transfer estimate does not include a supermarket stop or prove that one is available.
Decide whether to shop before reaching your accommodation
Consider the local arrival time, airport formalities, tiredness and any children travelling. Ask the host what supplies or shopping arrangements are actually available at the property rather than assuming delivery or a nearby open shop. If the stop conflicts with your confirmed reception window, discuss going straight to the accommodation and arranging shopping separately.
Describe the stop before accepting the journey
Provide a specific proposed shop and address, expected shopping time and final destination. Ask the actual provider to assess the detour and lawful stopping arrangements. Do not treat a shop on a map as an accepted stop or choose a replacement on the day without agreement. A supermarket stop is different from a sightseeing itinerary or several hotel drop-offs.
Agree the full price and waiting terms
Ask whether the quote includes the detour, agreed waiting, parking and any applicable charges, and what happens if shopping takes longer. Separate airport waiting from waiting at the shop. Do not add a guessed surcharge to a direct-route estimate. Obtain the complete price and service conditions before relying on the plan; no free stop or fixed allowance is implied.
Allow space for groceries as well as travel bags
List every passenger, suitcase, stroller, child seat and bulky item, then describe the additional shopping load. Standard allows up to three passengers and Premium up to two, subject to luggage; larger groups need a vehicle-specific quote. Ask about the actual vehicle. Do not assume refrigeration, luggage supervision, assistance carrying purchases or a driver supervising children while adults shop.
Coordinate the stop with access to your accommodation
Have the host confirm the address, guest entrance, key handover and latest accepted arrival. A supermarket detour can change when you reach a gate or reception. Buenaventura hotel and residential addresses require their own final directions; a general estate name is insufficient. The host accepts accommodation access and the provider accepts the road journey separately.
Agree what changes after a delay or shop closure
Check the shop’s current opening hours directly for your date; no opening schedule is promised here. Before travel, agree how to report a delayed flight and whether to omit the stop or request a revised route. A different shop, longer wait or changed destination requires acceptance. Do not assume a free diversion, automatic refund or an available alternative.
Send one complete request and retain written acceptance
Include the final flight into PTY, local arrival date, exact addresses, shopping duration, travellers, bags and requested seats. Ask for the full route, price, waiting conditions and fallback plan. A quote request does not reserve a car. Keep the provider’s written acceptance and your host’s arrival instructions; the existing enquiry process and January 2027 operating-start notice still apply.
Three supermarket-stop situations
| Your situation | What to arrange |
|---|---|
| The stop fits the confirmed arrival window | Request the exact route and full fare before accepting. |
| Arrival is late or access timing is tight | Discuss going straight to the accommodation and shopping separately. |
| The flight is delayed or the shop is closed | Contact the provider and obtain acceptance of any revised journey. |
